MSU announces major dates for 2000 fall semester

Classes for the 120th fall semester at Mississippi State University begin Monday, Aug. 21.

Campus housing opens for residency at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. For all who did not attend the June sessions, orientation for new students is scheduled on the 16th.

Final regular fall registration will be held Aug. 17 and 18, with late registration continuing through Sept. 1.

Other major MSU dates for the first semester of the school year include:

--Sept. 4, Labor Day holiday [university closed].

--Sept. 30, Scholars' Recognition Day for top high school seniors, held in conjunction with MSU's home football game with the University of Florida.

--Oct. 27 and 28, combined Parent's Weekend for the moms and dads of enrolled students and "Discovery Day" (28th only) for prospective students, both in conjunction with the Middle Tennessee State University football game.

--Also Oct. 28, Homecoming festivities for alumni and friends.

--Nov. 23 and 24, Thanksgiving holidays [university closed].

--Dec. 6, last day for all new students to apply for 2001 spring semester admission.

--Dec. 15, fall commencement exercises.

New student orientation for the 2001 spring semester will be held Jan. 3, with second-semester classes beginning on the 8th. Spring commencement exercises will be May 12.
