New MSU students should plan 'orient' trip next month

Students enrolling at Mississippi State for the first time this fall are being reminded to attend any of five orientation sessions on campus during June.

Three two-day university programs for freshmen and two one-day programs for transfer students are scheduled. In addition to advance class scheduling, students--and their parents--will have the opportunity to meet faculty members and administrators, as well as students already enrolled.

Last year's total attendance of 4,500 set a campus record for the orientation program.

Dates of the two-day 2000 freshman sessions are June 10 and 11, 15 and 16, and 24 and 25, while transfer students meet June 9 and 23. Parents attend separate, concurrent sessions.

"Orientation acquaints high school and community college graduates and their parents with the Mississippi State and Starkville communities," said Kristi V. Brown, assistant director of enrollment services. "We strongly encourage all new students to take advantage of these June sessions."
