A three-week showing of top student artwork opens Wednesday [March 1] at Mississippi State University.

A 7:30 p.m. public reception in the McComas Hall Art Gallery launches the 28th annual MSU Student Competitive Fine Art and Graphic Design Exhibition. During the evening, the art department will honor many of its majors whose works will be on display through March 23.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery will be closed during the university's spring break, March 5-12.

Winning entries earn cash awards, gift certificates and scholarships. Two "best of show" works will be named.

Debra Shafer, owner of Dux D'Lux Advertising in Starkville, and University of Mississippi art faculty member Greg Shelnut are this year's jurors.
