The readiness of state and local banks for Y2K will be the focus of a public program Friday [Nov. 5] at Mississippi State University.
Representatives of the banking industry and government regulatory agencies will lead an in-depth discussion of planned responses to potential situations resulting from the millennium change. The 3 p.m. program in the Rogers Auditorium of McCool Hall will conclude with a general question-and-answer session.
Speakers include Bobby Harper, president of the National Bank of Commerce in Columbus; A. Fred Miller, president of the Bank of Anguilla and the Mississippi Bankers Association; Ronny Parham, state commissioner of banking and consumer finance; and David Wright, an official of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. office in Memphis, Tenn.
