Mississippi State's veteran radiological safety officer is representing the eight state universities as a new member of Mississippi Radiation Advisory Council.
Through 2003, Terry L. Coggins will be the Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning's delegate to the six-member council, a division of the Mississippi State Department of Health.
A Pontotoc native, Coggins has served as MSU's radiological safety officer since 1986. The 1983 MSU nuclear engineering graduate is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi. In 1993, the American Board of Health Physics also certified him as a health physicist.
As an advisory council member, he will review policies related to the use of radiation, as well as the manufacture, storage, handling, and transportation of radioactive materials within the state's borders, among other issues.
