School librarians to learn 'MegaResources' at workshops

Contact: Maridith Geuder

A series of workshops that begin Friday (July 9) at Mississippi State University will introduce school librarians to the vast electronic resources available on the Internet.

The MegaResource School Librarian workshops are jointly sponsored by the MSU Libraries, the technology and education department, and the Division of Continuing Education.

A resources scavenger hunt, tours of campus sites using technology in instruction and lectures by technology experts will provide participants tips on accessing and evaluating web resources and using them effectively in the classroom.

The two-day workshop is the first in a series that will continue during the fall and next spring.

Among presenters are James Steil of the university's Geographic Information Systems unit; Patrick Francis of the geosciences department's storm chasing team; and reference librarians who will discuss topics ranging from web-based collections to evaluating web resources. State Rep. Steve Holland of Plantersville presents a Friday evening keynote address.
