The official MONOPOLY Game Tournament begins June 23 at 6 p.m. in the university's Colvard Union lobby. Free to both contestants and observers, the event is organized by the MSU Campus Activities Board.
Registration begins at 5:30 and is limited to 30 participants. Players must be at least 18 years old and either a Mississippi resident or an enrolled MSU student.
Six finalists will be determined through a preliminary round. The final round will decide the tournament winner. All rounds will adhere to long-game rules.
MSU is one of several tournament locations throughout the country. Winners at each will qualify for consideration for the State MONOPOLY game title.
The top-ranked champion from each state--the player with the highest total assets--could receive an all-expense paid trip to the U.S. MONOPOLY Game Championship in Las Vegas in mid-October. The American winner advances to world competition in London.
The 66-year-old Parker Brothers' real estate trading game was invented in Atlantic City by an unemployed Pennsylvanian at the height of the Depression. Today, it's licensed or sold in a record 80 countries and 26 languages.
