A Mississippi State University graduate is the new director of professional training and development in the university's Division of Continuing Education.
LaNell Bagwell will oversee non-credit training opportunities offered through the division, including professional development institutes for state teachers and administrators, safety training programs and enrichment programs. She said a focus will be developing new customized training programs to meet the needs of state business and industry.
She formerly was coordinator of program delivery and field operations for the Research and Curriculum Unit at the university, a joint project with the state Department of Education, and has served as assistant director of Oklahoma Educational Opportunity Programs at Rogers University in Claremore, Okla.
At the RCU, Bagwell coordinated the development and submission of Mississippi's School to Careers state grant application, which now is providing the state with $19.2 million over four years to support K-12 educational partnerships with business and industry. She also participated in the development of the Mississippi five-year plan for vocational education.
Bagwell earned her bachelor's degree in home economics education in 1975 and a master's in agricultural and extension education in 1982, both from Mississippi State. She is pursuing a doctorate in technology education.
