A Mississippi State University web site devoted to historical topics has earned the top prize for universities in state competition.
The Historical Text Archive maintained by history professor Donald Mabry was named academic web site winner in competition sponsored by the Mississippi Ed Tech conference, Mississippi Educational Television and The Learning Exchange.
The site can be accessed at www.msstate.edu/Archives/History.
More than 30 entries were judged on originality, resourcefulness, quality of content, depth of content, and creativity.
The Historical Text Archive provides information about regions of the world and the United States, topics of historical interest, and resources such as databases, directories and maps. One of its primary goals is to provide original historical materials to the Internet community.
The site also has been recognized as a Suite 101 Top 30 Education Site and as a Magellan Three-Star Site, and it has won the Afrolinks Week Award, among others.
Mabry is associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State, where he also serves as director of the Institute for the Humanities and director of the Biological and Physical Sciences Research Institute.
