Mississippi State's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer began Sunday night with performances of scenes from "Freedom High," a play by Adam Kraar. The play focuses on a week in 1964 when black Civil Rights veterans trained white volunteers to help them work in Mississippi registering African-Americans to vote. After they learn that three Civil Rights workers were murdered, everyone involved in the training is forced to decide whether the project can continue. Mississippi State's commemorative conference, "Remembering Freedom Summer: Building a Better Future," continues through Tuesday. Click here to see the full agenda.
