Bethany Hamilton, the young Hawaiian surfer who lost her left arm in a shark attack and whose life story was later shared in the 2011 movie "Soul Surfer," was this year's guest for the Dorothy Garrett Martin Lectureship in Values and Ethics. The Humphrey Coliseum crowd gave Hamilton a standing ovation after she shared how her Christian faith helped her overcome obstacles and find purpose and beauty in life's challenges. The event was sponsored by the university's Delta Gamma social sorority.
