More than 50 Mississippi State students visited Philadelphia on Wednesday to learn more about Civil Rights activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner. They were murdered in the small Mississippi town in 1964 after visiting Mt. Zion Methodist Church, which Ku Klux Klan members had burned down days before. The young men's deaths created a national spotlight on the battle for equal rights in Mississippi, and public outrage led to the first successfully prosecuted Civil Rights trial in state history in 1967.
