MSU senior Katherine Scott, of Starkville, reads "Mama Miti" to a third-grade class at Ward Stewart Elementary in Starkville, part of the Maroon Edition Children's Reading Blitz and sponsored by volunteers from MSU's Future Educators Association. Third-grade students learned about female role models, different cultures and making a difference in the world, an extension of the themes of the 2012 Maroon Edition, "Unbowed" by Kenyan author Wangari Maathai. The Maroon Edition unites the MSU community by offering a shared reading experience, enhanced by numerous events and discussions about the book on campus and beyond throughout the academic year.
