George Carlson, center, presiding justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court, accepted the university's Distinguished Jurist Award on Thursday. Shown presenting Carlson with the honor is Whit Waide, left, instructor in the department of political science and public administration, and student Taylor Luczak, president of MSU's Pre-Law Society. Carlson received a bachelor's degree in history from MSU in 1969.
