William F. Winter, who served as Mississippi's governor 1980-84, spoke to an overflow crowd Monday for the 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity Breakfast at the university. Known for his support of public education and racial reconciliation, Winter recognized Mississippi State for the "leadership it has demonstrated over the years in the area of racial reconciliation" and called on those attending to "work to do more than we have ever done to ensure education for all in Mississippi." He was introduced by MSU President Mark Keenum, who presented Winter a cowbell and a plaque proclaiming the former governor an "official Bulldog."
