As students in a principles of macroeconomics class prepared for a lesson on statistics, Coach Dan Mullen surprised the 8 a.m. class Friday, giving a guest lecture on utilizing statistical data in football. He explained how he, other football staff, and players study statistical analyses of plays, formations, pass concepts and all aspects of the game. Mullen told students he wanted to make sure they see that statistics do not just apply to some aspects of life, but apply to every part of life. He added that being a good math student growing up prepared him to be a football coach. Meghan Millea, professor of economics, said Mullen's talk gave students a great parallel in terms of using metrics to assess performance and make decisions.
