MSU's Pi Beta Phi chapter house, at 110 Robert L. Jones Drive, is the first sorority house in the U.S. designed as LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), setting a new precedent for sorority housing projects nationwide. Pryor and Morrow Architects of Columbus followed guidelines set by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for the Pi Phis to achieve LEED certification. Exterior features include maximizing open space, the use of indigenous landscaping, and sheltered bicycle storage. Plumbing and air conditioning systems incorporate water-use reduction features. The use of super insulation and window glazing also optimizes energy performance. The Pi Phi chapter joined the Mississippi State campus in the spring of 2009.
