Emoree Heiselt, Mace Faris, and Jasmine Smith (l-r) race solar powered boats as part of their participation in the Summer Engineering Experience hosted by the Bagley College of Engineering. The solar panel attached to the top feeds the engine and battery powering the propeller. The week-long program for students aged 8-12 teaches young people basic engineering principles, teamwork and critical thinking skills, which heighten their interest in math and science. The activities are hands-on, problem-solving and cooperative with an emphasis on engineering. These activities will be done in groups of three or four students, supervised by MSU College of Engineering students, faculty and staff.
