Iconic Mississippi State sports announcer Jack Cristil was honored at a reception yesterday officially dedicating a portion of U.S. Highway 82 within the Starkville corporate limits, also known as the 82 Bypass, as Jack Cristil Highway. The "voice of the Bulldogs" retired earlier this year after a 58-year career in which he called play-by-play action for more than 1,500 college football and basketball games. During that time, he earned numerous honors, including the Lindsey Nelson Award given annually to the nation's premier sports broadcaster. He has numerous other honors including being named Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year a record 21 times and became the first non-coach/non-athlete inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
