Aerospace Engineering professor Dr. James Newman, Jr. was recognized Tuesday night at the MSU Research Awards Banquet with the Ralph E. Powe Research Excellence Award, the highest honor given, for his accomplishments in the analysis of structure fatigue, fracture and safety. Newman was congratulated by Dr. David Shaw, left, vice president for research and economic development, and Dr. Mark Keenum, president. The William L. Giles Professor also is holder of the Richard H. Johnson Endowed Chair in Aerospace Engineering. Among his many achievements, he is author of more than 130 peer-reviewed, widely cited publications, many considered influential in his field.
