Students from Lee Middle School and the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, both in Columbus, study computer-simulated floods Wednesday during Mississippi State's GIS Day. The event introduced more than 100 students to cutting-edge geographic information systems technology and GIS career opportunities. Hosted by the MSU Department of Geosciences and Geosystems Research Institute, the day was sponsored through the university's New Science Partnerships in Rural Education program funded by the National Science Foundation.
