Mississippi State researchers use natural organisms stored inside these containers, called Winigratzki Columns, in the renewable fuels and chemicals lab at the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering in the Bagley College of Engineering. MSU researchers use these "self-sustaining microbial communities" in a variety of experiments related to finding improved renewable energy sources.
