"Found in all sections of Mississippi, the cheerful mockingbird was selected as the official state bird by the Women's Federated Clubs and by the state Legislature in 1944"--page 33, 2004-08 Mississippi Official and Statistical Register ("Blue Book"). Sitting in a campus tree, this local member of Mimus polyglottos also holds that title in Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas.
