With food in hand, Steve Demarais is a favorite of the white-tailed deer population at the Rusty Dawkins Memorial Deer Unit. The wildlife biologist is among university researchers involved in a nearly three-decade study of the native ruminants' genetics, reproductive success and--quite well, thank you--antler development. The Dawkins unit is located at the Wildlife and Fisheries Research and Educational Facility on Blackjack Road.
