Tyrone Johnson has gained many skills through the years, but his passion has brought him from his hometown of Meridian to MSU's Starkville campus where he is majoring in communication with an emphasis in theatre.
A graduate of Meridian Community College, Johnson also enjoyed attending MSU's Meridian campus for a semester before transferring to Starkville.
Johnson is a member of the Air National Guard, and his military experience has allowed him to earn an associate's degree in culinary arts.
He often works on special orders to support military events and exercises. Each event requires support in the areas of recreation, fitness and food for his military colleagues. He says his restaurant experience comes in handy.
Johnson describes himself as a "jack-of-all-trades," as he also has gained job skills and experience in retail sales, fork lifting and power line work.
When he's not working or studying, the father of two enjoys sports, as well as writing poetry and song lyrics.
The first-generation college student says he wants the full experience of the stage. He has goals of directing and acting, and has already tried his hand at playwriting and set building.
"My favorite thing about theatre is the excitement it brings to the audience. I love to bring a smile to someone," Johnson says.
