She's been at Mississippi State for more than 20 years, but Shabrina Williams sees each day as a new opportunity to communicate and connect with others.
As an accounts payable specialist in MSU's Office of Procurement and Contracts, Williams talks to a variety of people in her work of processing invoices all over campus.
"I like working with my team here and talking with all the other departments. I'll talk with them on the phone, communicate with them, and do my job to the best of my ability," she said.
Williams grew up in Starkville and attended East Mississippi Community College before she landed her first professional job at Mississippi State.
"I got a summer job in procurement at Mississippi State. It was my first job after I graduated in 1986," she explained. "They wanted to hire me full-time, but couldn't."
When one of her former Mississippi State colleagues later offered her a full-time position in the physical plant, Williams jumped at the opportunity.
"They hired me because of my credentials, and I've been here ever since," she said.
When Williams had the opportunity to become part of the team in the Office of Procurement and Contracts about six years ago, she knew the job would be right up her alley, she said.
"I like to meet new people, and communicating with different kinds of people—just being friendly—is great for me," she said. "This building, McArthur Hall, is my favorite."
When she's not on the job, Williams enjoys spending time with her husband, sister and mother, and she's an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
