When fans think of student-athletes' success, it is often measured in wins, losses, touchdowns, rebounds, and homeruns. But when Victor Parker talks about their success, it is measured by a different means.
As an athletics academic counselor, Parker is responsible for ensuring that athletes are as successful in the classroom as they are on the field by making sure they stay on track with their studies, are taking the required number of courses, and are meeting NCAA eligibility requirements.
Currently working with the women's basketball team, he said an important role for all athletics academic counselors is working with faculty to stay informed on athletes' progress to keep them focused on being successful.
"I've been fortunate to work with some great student-athletes who have worked hard," Parker said. "We always tell them the best thing they can take with them when they leave the university, regardless of where they go, is a degree."
