STARKVILLE, Miss.—A public art unveiling and reception at Mississippi State this week will preview a lineup of events scheduled for Black History Month in February.

The Wednesday [Dec. 5] event “Imitation of Life” will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Colvard Student Union’s Foster Ballroom M. The event is open to all and formal attire is suggested.

Sponsored by MSU’s Society of African American Studies, a photographic art exhibit will present reinterpretations of well-known iconic works of art, such Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” and Thutmose’s “Bust of Nefertiti.” Artists’ interpretations of these masterpieces examine underlying social conventions and normative values.

“Imitation of Life” also will be on display during the month of February with details to be announced.
