Rock ’n’ roll musical ‘Diary of a Worm, a Spider & a Fly’ comes to MSU Riley Center in January

A rock ’n’ roll musical about bugs is coming to the MSU Riley Center. “Diary of a Worm, a Spider & a Fly,” which sneaks science into its catchy songs, takes the stage on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 7 p.m.

The hourlong romp is part of the Riley Center’s affordably priced Family Show series. Everyone from age 4 on up will enjoy this whimsical look at a bug’s life, based on the Doreen Cronin children’s books “Diary of a Worm,” “Diary of a Spider” and “Diary of a Fly.”

Joan Cushing’s lively musical score  navigates a wide variety of musical styles, from rock to rap to boogie-woogie in a celebration all of the world’s creatures and their importance to the planet.

The acclaimed Dallas Children’s Theater brings this touring production to the Riley Center. “The raucous, joyous show rapping spiritedly at Dallas Children’s Theater offers an intoxicating mix of educational and entertaining fare,” wrote Dallas Morning News reviewer Nancy Churnin. “It’s a memorable biology lesson and uplifting message for kids seeking their own special role in the world.”

The exclusive hands-on preshow experience by the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian will kick off at 6 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of the MSU Riley Center. Children will be transported into the great “outdoors” and the world of the creepy crawling creatures all around.  After setting up their campsites, they will head out for up close encounter with our four-, six- and, eight-legged friends from Jarrod Fogarty of MSU’s biology department.  In their hand-made diaries they will be able to document what they learn and even do some experiments of their own.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by phone at 601-696-2200.
