STARKVILLE, Miss.—With support from Mississippi State University, young people in Starkville will be learning entrepreneurial skills by taking part in Lemonade Day on August 18.
A kick-off meeting for parents and kids interested in participating will take place Saturday [June 30] at 9 a.m. at the Glo Headquarters at 419 Lampkin Street in Starkville. The event is part of the national Lemonade Day program, which for 10 years has organized community lemonade stand events to help develop life skills, character education and an entrepreneurial spirit in youth.
MSU’s College of Business and its Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach is sponsoring the community event, along with Cadence Bank and Castle Properties. All participants will receive a backpack, a workbook, are eligible for additional prizes and will have the opportunity to make money from their stand. They are being encouraged to “spend some, save some and share some,” according to event promotional materials.
“Lemonade Day is a great community event and a fun opportunity to instill the entrepreneurial spirit in young people and is an important part of the outreach mission for MSU’s College of Business,” said Jeffrey Rupp, MSU College of Business outreach director.
Lemonade Day will take place at stands throughout Starkville. To register and to view an interactive map of stands, visit www.lemonadeday.org/starkville. For more information on the event, contact Rupp at jeffrey.rupp@msstate.edu or 662-364-7021.
Since its launch in 2007 in Houston, Texas, Lemonade Day has grown from serving 2,700 kids in one city to one million children across North America. The Lemonade Day website also explains that the event sparks the spirit of entrepreneurship and empowers youth to set goals, work hard and achieve their dreams. For more, visit www.lemonadeday.org.
