STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State University’s Theatre MSU will perform Charles Dickens’ world-renowned novella, “A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas” Nov. 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.

The performances will be held on the main stage at McComas Hall. Tickets are $10 each at the door, while season tickets are $30. Advance tickets also may be purchased at events.msstate.edu. Half of the proceeds from the Friday performance will support the Sally Kate Winters Family Services and the organization’s Transitional Living Program.

First published on Dec. 19, 1843, Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” at a time when Britain was examining Christmas traditions from the past, such as carols, as well as exploring new customs, such as Christmas trees. The first edition sold out before Christmas Eve, just six days later.

The beloved story was written with the intent of bringing attention to the plight of England’s poor. With every famous “Bah! Humbug!” audiences can relive the classical tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
