STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University is celebrating International Education Week Monday-Friday [Nov. 14-18] with a diverse array of events hosted by the International Institute, Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and other campus organizations.
Free to all, MSU’s weeklong schedule of events begins Monday [Nov. 14] with “Delicious DestiNATIONS” at the Marketplace at Perry residential dining facility. The 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday campus dining experience will introduce students, faculty and staff to cuisines of different countries or regions, including India, Latin America, the Middle East and South Korea. The event is sponsored by the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and MSU Dining Services.
Additionally, the Starkville World Neighbors Association is sponsoring a poster design contest for the official 2017 International Fiesta flier. The first place winner will receive a $100 cash prize and see his or her design featured on the official promotional flier for the popular springtime event. Those interested in participating may retrieve an entry packet from the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center (HCDC) on the second floor of Colvard Student Union.
Throughout the week in Allen Hall Room 116, the International Institute is hosting a photo booth, where U.S. and international students can take selfies using a global-themed backdrop and fun props. Students may post their pictures to the social media platform of their choice using the hashtags #MSUGlobal and #IEW2016.

—Nov. 14, 2-3 p.m., Colvard Student Union Room 330, “Leveraging Your Study Abroad Workshop – Part I (Résumés and Cover Letters)” with the MSU Office of Study Abroad and the Career Center. From 6-8 p.m., the International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) will show “Intouchables,” the first film in a four-part international film festival in Colvard Student Union’s third-floor Fowlkes Auditorium. Refreshments will be provided, and discussion will take place following the film.
—Nov. 15, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Colvard Student Union Gaddis Hunt Commons (food court), HCDC-sponsored International Cultural Booths featuring international student organizations and clubs; 2-3 p.m., Union 330, “Leveraging Your Study Abroad Workshop – Part II (Interviews);” 3- 4 p.m., Union 329, English Language Institute and MSU Globetrotters’ “Conversation Connections” weekly conversation group with U.S. and international students, faculty and community members; 5- 6 p.m., McCool Hall Room 126, Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society and MSU Extension Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy-sponsored “Real World Life Skills Budgeting Game;” 6-8 p.m., Fowlkes Auditorium, ISAB’s second international film, “No se aceptan devoluciones.”
—Nov. 16, Noon-2 p.m., Union’s second-floor Bill R. Foster Ballroom, HCDC-sponsored Cultural Exchange Luncheon; 3:30-4:30 p.m., Union 325, Office of Study Abroad’s photo contest reception; 6-7 p.m., MSU Writing Center at President’s Circle, ESL Game Night; 7-9 p.m., ISAB’s third international film, “Girl Rising.”
—Nov. 17, 3-4 p.m., Fowlkes Auditorium, International Institute’s Global Engagement Lecture, “China’s Domination of the South China Sea;” 5-7 p.m., ISAB’s “Coffee, Culture and Conversation: Perception of the Third World” co-sponsored by the MSU chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA.
—Nov. 18, 3-5 p.m., Fowlkes Auditorium, ISAB’s fourth international film, “Tonari no Totoro,” co-sponsored by the MSU Japanese Club.
