STARKVILLE, Miss.—A veteran campus administrator is the new assistant vice president for Student Affairs at Mississippi State University.
Jeremy Baham, who has served MSU as the associate dean of students since 2011, was promoted to the new role focusing on student support and wellbeing effective Nov. 1. In making the announcement, MSU Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt said in addition to his valuable time at MSU, Baham also brings a wealth of experience from his work at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, University of West Florida in Pensacola, as well as Averett University in Danville, Virginia.
“Jeremy’s commitment to student success has been demonstrated through his work on campus and his contributions to the division’s new strategic plan,” Hyatt said. “Student support and wellbeing are on the forefront of the work we are doing in the Division of Student Affairs, and we are looking forward to the creativity and innovation that will be a result of Jeremy’s leadership in this area.”
The McComb native and veteran of the Army Reserves and Alabama National Guard will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to several areas, including Recreational Sports, the Longest Student Health Center, Health Promotion and Wellness, Student Counseling Services, Testing Services, Planning and Assessment, Student Support Services and Disability Support Services. Student Affairs is comprised of 21 departments focusing on student life and engagement; student health, safety, and wellness; student support programs; and student success.
In addition to a doctoral degree in higher education administration from the University of Alabama in 2014, Baham completed a master’s degree in community counseling in 1999 and bachelor’s degrees in political science and history in 1996, at the University of North Alabama.
Baham said he is honored to be selected to serve as the assistant vice president for student affairs to promote the mental and physical wellbeing of MSU students.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work toward this goal with so many wonderful staff members across campus. The dedicated staff in the Division of Student Affairs continue to create an environment at MSU that recognizes and supports healthy choices that engender student success,” Baham said.
Baham and his wife Tracey, who serves as MSU associate director for institutional effectiveness, are the parents of two children, Patrick, 14, and James, 3.
