STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Department of Music is welcoming prospective music and music education majors and their families Nov. 7 for the university’s 10th annual Music Discovery Day.

Nov. 2 is the deadline for $10 online registration at www.music.msstate.edu/discover.

During a 9 a.m.-4 p.m. open house, high school juniors and seniors, as well as community college students, will have opportunities for one-on-one visits with faculty members and current students.

In addition to learning about the department’s academic programs and music-related career opportunities, participants will observe music classes and attend faculty and student performances.

“Along with career paths in education or performance, we want to help students learn more about other lucrative careers in music, such as music business ownership, private studio teaching and music journalism, as well as those in research-based fields like musicology (music history) and music theory,” said event coordinator Jessica Banks, MSU flute lecturer and flute choir director.
