STARKVILLE, Miss.—With the Ford Foundation’s designation as a “national treasure” and an organizational philosophy that “everyone matters,” Ballet Memphis is bringing its original dance creations to Mississippi State.
Latest in the university’s 2015-16 Lyceum Series events, the March 22 performance by the 32-member Tennessee-based ensemble will get underway at 7 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of historic Lee Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Led by founder and director Dorothy Gunther Pugh, Ballet Memphis began a quarter-century ago with a mission to “provide culturally significant art to all who are willing to nourish it.”
From studios in the Cordova community at Memphis’ eastern edge, the group annually shares its art and energy with audiences throughout the United States. The Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts, Joyce Theater in New York City, and John F.
