STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State will host an open public forum next week to give the community an opportunity to review the university’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
To be held Monday [Dec. 14] from 5-7 p.m. in McCool Hall’s Rogers Auditorium (Room 100), the event will include campus administrators who will be on hand to answer questions.
Jeremy Baham, associate dean of students, explained that MSU’s “Disaster Resistant University Project” began in 2008 with funding provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. The university produced a plan to address potential natural and man-made hazards.
The plan identifies and profiles potential hazards, evaluates the vulnerabilities of the university, and proposes mitigation actions that could reduce the university’s vulnerability.
“The ultimate goal is a safer university for students, faculty and staff. Part of the goal is also that of protecting Mississippi’s investment in MSU and ensuring that the university would be capable of fulfilling its mission during a disaster and afterward through the recovery period,” Baham said.
