Mississippi State sees green light for free speech
Mississippi State maintains its âgreen lightâ for free speech from a national organization dedicated to defending individual rights in higher education.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) recognizes MSU for free speech protection and a commitment to giving students the best possible education and learning environment. FIRE notes that universities with a green light rating do not have policies that pose a serious threat to free speech on campus.
According to the Philadelphia, Pa.-based nonprofit, its âcore mission is to protect the unprotected and to educate the public and communities of concerned Americans about the threats to these rights on our campuses and about the means to preserve them.â Its work focuses on freedom of speech and expression; religious liberty and freedom of association; freedom of conscience; and due process and legal equality on campus.
