STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State University Philharmonia, along with The Golden Triangle Regional Youth Orchestra and members of the MSU Wind Ensemble, will perform in a Monday [Nov. 24] campus concert.
Free to all, the program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McComas Hall main theater. MSU music professor Michael Brown and orchestral strings lecturer Shandy Phillips will direct.
The philharmonia and youth orchestra will present Mozart's "Divertimento in F major," following the string quartet's rendition of the first movement from Haydn's "String Quarter in F minor."
The philharmonia, which is the university's student orchestra, follows the joint performance with Handel's "Concerto Grosso IV," with professor Jackie Edwards-Henry accompanying on the harpsichord. The group also will be featured on Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus" and Brown's arrangement of Leonard Gautier's "Le Secret."
Rounding out the evening will be selections that include highlights from the Broadway musical "Chicago!" and William Walton's "Crown Imperial." Also, full orchestra performances will feature wind and percussion members of the ensemble under the baton of Elva Kaye Lance, MSU director of bands.
