Cooke, Rupp to play museum, galleries fundraiser

From insects to ancient artifacts, Mississippi State has more than a dozen museums and galleries across its campus.

The Museum and Galleries Committee is a consortium of 17 interdisciplinary collections, galleries and museums at the university. Through the use of digital and physical collections, it strives to promote the arts, disseminate cultural histories, facilitate research, and develop educational opportunities for diverse audiences.

The committee will host a fundraiser above Restaurant Tyler in downtown Starkville on Wednesday [Nov. 19] from 5-8 p.m. Bill Cooke and Jeffrey Rupp will provide the musical entertainment.

“The variety and quality of the museums and galleries at State are a well-kept secret and we want to change that,” Rupp said.

The money raised during this fundraiser will help the committee produce new cross-gallery brochures that will be made available around the region to help raise awareness about the important collections at MSU and increase the number of people who visit the campus museums for academic reasons or for personal enjoyment.

The cost of the event is $10 and includes appetizers and door prizes. All proceeds benefit the museums and galleries of Mississippi State.
