STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State boasts its highest-ever average ACT score of 24.4 for entering freshmen for the fall 2014 semester, according to enrollment data just released by the university.
ACT scores rose half a point, up from the 2013 score of 23.9.
Overall enrollment at Mississippi's flagship research university remains steady, continuing to exceed 20,000 and currently standing at 20,138.
"We begin this semester with the highest average ACT scores in the university's history," said MSU President Mark E. Keenum. "It is an indication that students and families continue to see Mississippi State as the premier research university it is, serving the needs of our state, region and nation.
Keenum said he is pleased that the enrollment figures include an increase in the number of transfer students and that "we're welcoming the second largest freshman class in the history of the university."
Additionally, Keenum noted growth in enrollment in MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine (up 8.58 percent), College of Engineering (up 7.33 percent), and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (up 2.56 percent):
-468 in the College of Veterinary Medicine;
--3,780 in the College of Engineering; and
--2,207 in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Other enrollment information includes these numbers posted by the remaining colleges:
