Tony Bennett takes Riley stage on Saturday

Tony Bennett

He has more than 450,000 likes on Facebook, more than 80,000 Twitter followers, and he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award -- 13 years ago. With six decades of work, accolades and hits behind him, Tony Bennett can still pack the house for his live shows. He’s coming to the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Saturday [July 26] for a 7:30 p.m. performance. A pre-show party will take place at 6 p.m.

Bennett’s trademark tune, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” could have been the peak of his career in 1962. But 50 million records later -- with 17 Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards along the way -- one could argue that it was just the beginning for New York native Anthony Dominick Benedetto. There were plenty of valleys in his career during the 1970s and 1980s, but the 1990s saw a phenomenal rebirth for Bennett, engineered in large part by his son. When his 1994 album, “MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett,” went platinum, Bennett’s star began rising again, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Tickets are $88 and $82 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
