Collegiate Recovery Community to meet Thursday

Bill Broyles (right), interim vice president for student affairs at Mississippi State, recently presented biological engineering senior Taylor Szasz with the first $500 scholarship from the Collegiate Recovery Community.

All are welcome at Recovery Night, an event in which the Mississippi State University Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) joins together with the campus and greater community in order to celebrate the miracle of recovery.

A monthly celebration will be held on the third Thursday of each month, with the next meeting scheduled for July 17 at 7 p.m. in McCool Hall, Room 109.

Last month, the CRC was proud to award its first scholarships. Eight scholarships were awarded for the 2013-2014 school year, six scholarships of $500 and two scholarships of $250.

These scholarships were made possible by generous donations to the Collegiate Recovery Community Foundation account from individual sponsors and grants from the Stacie Mathewson Foundation www.transformingyouthrecovery.org, as well as the Mullen 36 Foundation.

Close to 60 people attended Recovery Night, and were treated to a heartwarming story of redemption, as one of the CRC students and founding members told of her life leading up to addiction, the depths of her addiction, and how she has prospered in recovery. Hope and faith were central themes of her story, and she received a standing ovation. People were then recognized for different lengths of recovery, with a range from someone just starting out his journey to someone celebrating more than 30 years of long-term recovery.
