A Mississippi State interior design major from Calhoun City is being awarded a scholarship that will pay full tuition, room, board, books and fees during her final year at the university.
Senior Emily C. Hardin, the daughter of Anthony and Susan Hardin, will receive the Celia Moh Scholarship. Hardin is one of only four students in the nation to receive the award for the 2014-15 academic year, and she is the fifth MSU student in as many years to be selected for the award.
Furniture-industry entrepreneur Laurence Moh, founder of Universal Furniture and Fine Furniture Design, created the scholarship to recognize and support outstanding students enrolled in full-time home-furnishings programs. Created to honor Moh's wife, Celia, the scholarship is considered one of the most prestigious scholarships for students committed to entering the home-furnishing industry. Altogether, 84 scholarships have been awarded over the past 13 years.
MSU's Franklin Furniture Institute manages the MSU awards, as well as the application process. It requires candidates in approved academic programs, such as interior design or furniture production, to complete an extensive questionnaire, write a personal essay, obtain faculty recommendations and demonstrate superior academic achievement.
