STARKVILLE, Miss.--A personal finance budget simulation will be held next week at Mississippi State as part of the university's observance of National Money Smart Week.

To be held Tuesday [April 8], "Life After College" is designed to introduce students to realities associated with career and family life, as well as demonstrate the financial implications of lifestyle decisions.

Taking place in the Colvard Student Union's first-floor Dawg House Lounge, the 11 a.m.-2 p.m. event will involve a series of 14 spending choices for housing, cars, food, credit cards, insurance, childcare, student loan debt, among others.

According to organizers, the activity should take approximately 30 minutes from check-in to visiting the last of 14 decision-making stations.

Students completing the simulation automatically will be entered into a drawing for a mini iPad provided by Statewide Federal Credit Union. The first 100 to finish also will receive a T-shirt.

Professional volunteers from various campus departments and community organizations will answer questions and assist in the consumer decision-making process.

The MSU Extension Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy, in conjunction with the campus "Maroon Money Management" initiative, are co-sponsors of the campus National Money Smart Week activities.
