For those who live in and love the South, music is an inseparable part of the region and its roots. These roots run deep for four singer/songwriters who have joined their talents for a special spring tour.
The Southern Soul Assembly, comprised of Luther Dickinson, Anders Osborne, Marc Broussard and JJ Grey, pays homage to the Southern musical spirit by bringing authentic Southern songs and stories to cities all over the country.
The tour comes to the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Thursday [April 3], for a 7:30 p.m. performance. A pre-show reception will take place at 6 p.m.
The talented members of this group are well known by passionate fans of Southern soul music. Grey fronts his band Mofro, has crafted six studio albums in his 10 years of touring, and is known for his âgrimy blend of front porch soul and down-home storytelling.â Called the âpoet laureate of Louisianaâs fertile roots music scene,â Osborneâs award-winning songwriting skills -- heâs penned hits sung by Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and many others -- are rivaled only by his phenomenal guitar playing. Broussard, known for his âbayou soulâ music, has five studio albums, the most recent, âLive at Full Sail University,â released in 2013. Guitar legend Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars started his recording career at age 14, and in the years since has shown his skill in music production as well.
Tickets are $39 and $33 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
