STARKVILLE, Miss.--Internationally recognized New York architect Charles Renfro is the next guest for the Harrison Lecture Series of Mississippi State's School of Architecture.
A partner at Diller Scofidio + Renfro and member of the American Institute of Architects, Renfro speaks March 21 in Jackson at the War Memorial Building, 120 North State St. To begin at 3:30 p.m., his presentation is free and open to all.
The War Memorial Building is a block east of the school's Stuart C. Irby Jr. Studios where architecture majors complete the fifth and final year of their MSU coursework. A reception at the 509 East Capitol St. studio will immediately follow the address.
Renfro is part of an award-winning, 90-member interdisciplinary design studio that integrates the performing and visual arts with architecture.
"This particular lecture, which focuses on the 'practice' of architecture, affords us the opportunity to have a member of an internationally recognized firm make a presentation in the Jackson Metro area," said Michael Berk, school director.
"The work of these firms is intended to connect more readily with the professionals and locally interested community members in the state," he added.
Renfro's work with DS+R has been exhibited worldwide at museums and institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum, both in New York; Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam; Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal; and Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Renfro, who joined the firm in 1997 and was named a partner in 2004, holds a master's degree in architecture from Columbia University. In addition to currently serving as a visiting professor at New York's Parsons New School of Design, he lectures frequently throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Sponsored during each academic year by Robert and Freda Harrison of Jackson, the MSU lecture series brings national and international architects and other trade experts to share their expertise with the general public, as well as students, faculty and alumni of the School of Architecture. Robert Harrison is a retired architect, consultant and founding partner of JH&H Architects.
Architecture students and faculty members on the Starkville campus will travel by bus to join their peers at the capital city event.
