Mississippi State's Carl Small Town Center is holding a March 24 seminar in Oxford titled "Design for Public Officials."
The research center is part of the School of Architecture in the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design.
The Lafayette County event takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Inn at Ole Miss. Lunch will be provided. The registration fee is $30 before March 14; $45 afterwards.

Open to all North Mississippi public officials and others interested in improving their communities, the workshop will focus on the value of good design for municipalities in the Hills and Delta regions. Public officials are encouraged to bring ideas and information about local projects for panel discussions.
Speakers will include Bob Barber, former Hernando city planner; Heather Deutsch, the District of Columbia transportation department's bicycle program specialist; John Poros, CSTC director and a rural sustainability authority; and Kennedy Smith, a community development and revitalization specialist with the Arlington, Va.-based Community Land Use and Economics Group.
The program has been organized to provide useful and applicable knowledge, including steps necessary to becoming a successful advocate for good community design. Participants also will learn how to be successful in planning and economic development projects for tourism, recreation and job recruitment.
Two certified municipal official credits, or CMOs, may be received for attending.
