Contact: Checky Herrington

Who: Mississippi State leaders, elected officials and the developer

What: A community gathering to celebrate The Mill at Mississippi State University. The $40-million development features three main projects: transforming the landmark former cotton mill into a conference center and related office space, building an adjacent hotel, and developing mixed-use business parcels in the land around the university's former physical plant. The event is open to the public.

When: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20

Where: E.E. Cooley Building (Former home to MSU's Facilities Management operations)

600 Russell Street, Starkville

Why: The community is celebrating the formal announcement of The Mill at Mississippi State University. Efforts to bring this development to fruition on this site have been under way for about 10 years. MSU purchased the John M. Stone Cotton Mill in 1965 and renamed it after the school's former superintendent of utilities, E.E. Cooley. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Architectural drawings will be in place to illustrate what the space will look like after the historic building's renovation is completed.

The Cooley Building will be available to the media.
