John F. Marszalek will be featured during a live appearance on C-SPAN3 this Saturday [March 22] starting at noon.

The executive director and managing editor for the Mississippi State University-based Ulysses S. Grant Association and Grant Presidential Library will answer questions on the American history television segment titled "The Civil War - Person of the Year 1864."

According to the C-SPAN3 website, the Person of the Year concept is modeled after the Time Magazine annual series. The site said, "Five noted historians nominate candidates for the most influential person of 1864, and the audience selects the winner."

Each of the historians' presentations will be featured on C-SPAN3 earlier in the morning Saturday, with Marszalek's argument for William Tecumseh Sherman as Person of the Year to begin at 11:06 a.m. Then, after a brief segment announcing Sherman as the audience-selected winner, Marszalek's live segment will begin at noon to take call-in questions.

Marszalek said the original segments featuring him and his fellow historians were filmed during a recent symposium in Richmond, Virginia, at the Museum of the Confederacy.

Also a Giles Distinguished Professor Emeritus at MSU, Marszalek has authored three books about Sherman in addition to more than 10 other history books he has edited or authored.
