The Colvard Student Union Art Gallery is presenting "Heady Mettle," an exhibit displaying the sculpted works of Mississippi State University alumna Laurie Burton.

These works utilize a combination of materials, including paper-mache, paint, other materials and found objects, to create sculptures that unconventionally contrast everyday found objects with the beauty of the human form. The exhibit runs through February 27.

Burton has had a lifelong enjoyment of art. In 2007, she purchased and renovated a studio in downtown Starkville, bringing her interest to life. Her studio, known as Wild Rose, has given her the opportunity to create and showcase her art to others with the same affection.

Burton's gallery displays eclectic works, including old windows painted with birds and butterflies, recycled doors painted with bright colors, traditional oil and acrylic paintings of landscapes, portraits and still lifes, and glass and copper mosaics.

The Colvard Student Union Art Gallery is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. It is located on the second floor of the Colvard Student Union.

The Union Art Gallery presents museum shows, traveling exhibits, student shows, group and solo exhibitions by professional artists and special events. For more information, visit www.union.msstate.edu or call (662) 325-2930.
